Chuck Weikel is a community leader in Annapolis, chairing and founding many civic boards and activities including the Mayor’s Book Club, the Parking Committee and the Annapolis Charter 300 celebrations. As a decorated veteran and Naval Officer he served with the Multinational Force in Beirut, Lebanon and the Gulf War. He has been deeply engaged with Democratic candidates and politics in the city. He has also been a business leader, running a business employing 75 people for over eight years. He is a graduate of the US Naval Academy and has an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago.

Chuck grew up around Washington, DC, and spent many summer days in his youth in Annapolis in the 1960s. His family’s roots in the Annapolis go back to 1865, when his great grandfather was released from a Confederate prison to Camp Parole.

In 1975, he was appointed to the Naval Academy from Michigan and graduated with the Class of 1979 with a BS in Physics.

On active duty in the Navy, Chuck was accepted into the nuclear propulsion program and served aboard the USS Mississippi and the USS Nimitz on three deployments to the Mediterranean Sea. He served with the Multinational Force in Beirut, Lebanon and earned his Surface Warfare designation aboard these ships. In the Naval Reserve, he served at the Office of Naval Research and on the USS Guam. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Battle ‘E’, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, among others.

In 1992 he purchased ABC Industries, a 75-employee specialized manufacturing company based in Illinois and ran it as President and CEO until 2000. He met payrolls and grew the business to almost three times its previous size. Due to its specialized nature, the business did business around the globe and Chuck developed trade relationships with many different peoples and cultures. During this time he served as a Director of the US Grains Council, a not-for-profit international marketing group.

After returning to Annapolis, Chuck began his involvement with the local community while working for a Chicago-based business consulting firm, Kinsella Group, on an ad hoc basis. He chairs the city’s Parking Committee and pushed through a series of parking reforms, the first since the 1980s. He personally brought forward the proposal for "first two hours free parking" for city residents, which has made it possible for many more city residents to use and enjoy downtown Annapolis.

He also founded and co-chairs the Mayor’s Book Club, which focuses on one text related to city planning for a full year of in-depth discussions. He is currently serving as Executive Director of the city’s Annapolis Charter 300 celebrations for the city’s 300th birthday.

In politics, Chuck has been a tireless advocate for Annapolis Democrats and has worked on the campaigns of Dick Israel, Sam Shropshire and Ellen Moyer in 2005. Nevertheless, Chuck understands that being an effective Democrat means more than just advocacy – he also has reached out to all those politically involved. He founded and chairs Positive Voices, a Maryland registered bi-partisan PAC that is trying to stop personal attacks on individual candidates by focusing on issues and facts.

He has also been active in neighborhood associations including Green Street Neighbors, currently pushes for reforms of the city’s maintenance of rental properties ordinance and is active on other issues of importance to residents. He is also a member of the Ward One Resident’s Association, Green Street GreenScape and the Historic Annapolis Foundation.
