The Democratic Central Committee
The Democratic Party in Maryland has a long history and the party’s Central Committees has long been important in organizing and supporting Democratic candidates. On May 21, 1827, the first Maryland State Democratic Central Committee meeting was held in Baltimore. It brought together the first supporters of General Andrew Jackson to organize after the frustrating election of 1824 where Jackson lost the electoral vote after winning the popular vote.
The Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee is charged as the official governing body of the county’s Democratic Party. It has duties specified in the party’s by-laws, the most significant of which is the selection of replacement candidates and officials if required to do so.
Chuck Weikel also believes our county’s central committee has important additional responsibilities including organizing and leadership within the party and improving the quality of political discourse in our daily political life.
Elections to the AACDCC occur in years that Governors are elected. Members are elected by state legislative districts with three central committee members from our District 30. The election is held during the primary election, this year held on Tuesday, September 12.
The time to Energize and Organize is now.
